Just found that many comments are fixated on proving Sivaji maharaj's lineage to rajput. I believe it is not required. Sivaji Maharaj will remain a hero even if he is born into any of the so called lowest of castes.
But it was sad that he had to get himself identified as having a rajput lineage to get acceptance but that was just politics.
Travancore kings also used to undergo some such process like hiranyagarba to make them kshatriya which is a political thing so that they became special and no just another Nayar, their original community. Also it ensures that no other Nayar who gains military powers comes and upsurps their throne. Rather they get these other Nayars to be loyal to them.
Same politics must have been used to get other Marathas to support Sivaji maharaj and his descendants.

Slight correction, no one in India has ever cared for engineering. They are obsessed with the job the engineering degree will get. If India truly was obsessed with engineering it would have seen eye to eye with the likes of Germany, Japan and USA. We have no capabilities in engineering.
