I had a speech disorder as a child and learning words has been hard for me all my life. I got fluent in Hindi and English because I was able to find friends who wouldn't make fun of me while I tried learning those languages.

All my life being in a telugu speaking dominant crowd in school or workplace, i have only received hostility over me not being able to talk in telugu.

Firstly, telugu speaking people judge you a lot for not being able to talk in telugu, and they are majorly super rude.

Secondly, not getting a chance to have friends or social circle who actually helps you learn a language rather than being hostile, and rude makes you actually not want to learn a language.

I can proudly say I can understand telugu but only because I've been living here all my life.

And I have received all kind of bad mouthing because of not speaking telugu.

Languages die, Sanskrit died, Konkani died, rajputani died, Greek died and many more. That doesn't mean people should attack people for talking in other Languages and definitely it doesn't mean that forcing people to learn a particular language just because it's majorly spoken will solve the problem.

If I'm running a business in any Indian state, i should know the local language. But if I'm in a State for work and not planning to settle down there in the long run, I don't think learning that language is mandatory. I've spent more than 6 years in AP & TS and thus learned telugu. But a fresher guy just out of college need not learn the local language immediately.
