While the concept of Bharat has existed for ages, it is also true that people have multiple identities. A nation is just a political unit, but culture is deeply personal to the people. For most of history, Bharat existed as a civilization, but there were numerous countries within it.

If you go back in history, people in Karnataka or Tamil Nadu considered themselves part of the same "civilization" as say someone from Haryana. They worshiped the same gods, considered Kashi and Ganga to be sacred. But, they also have been politically independent and have their own language and culture throughout most of history.

Here is the most important thing. Kannadigas or Tamilians are not slaves conquered by someone sitting in Delhi. Different people came together, as equals, to create our current republic. You can't disrespect people by imposing one language or way of practicing religion in their own lands, and then not expect them to get angry.

India was and always will be diverse, with multiple identities. You either find a way to respect everyone and go forward, or have a broken country where one group wants to force their culture over others.

If we go down the second path, it may come to be that the civilization called "Bharat" will continue existing, but not as one single, united political entity.
