It's a police driven scam

My 5 year old , redmi note 7 pro was stolen at bus pickpocket. The outer condition was excellent but the inner parts were a mess . ( Damaged battery , xyz ...)

It was stolen /pickpocketed , and the usual police stuff were done .
I didn't cared much cause it's resale value would be shit (and it was rooted) , so if he just tired to hard reset it , it would automatically brick.

This incident happened during Durga Puja season.

After 4-5 months , the police called and they said that the phn was recovered . ( I know it's not possible, as it's just a pile of junk -dead phn)
When I went to the station , they were asking 1000 rupees as police bribe...
I told them to keep it or dispose it as I was not going to pay anything for that.

If it was a new phone , it wouldn't be recovered.
