Went through the same problem after not using my car for a few months. To avoid another case of rats , had used 3M car care rat repellent. Used to start the engine and let it warm up for 15-20mins after every 3 days. I now drive regularly so I've stopped facing any problems altogether. The main thing I almost forgot - I changed the parking spot. It is away from the dry balcony waala side of my society.

So I'm not sure about your timelines, but if you're going to start the adoption process for a baby girl, if you start in 2 years, you will be matched with the first child 2-3 years after getting into the CARA list.
So maybe re-evaluate your timelines?
