Also, you need to factor in trading costs in a realistic way, commissions/fees and most of all, slippage.
Some people simply double their test results and apply that to live trading. For example, if your max losing streak was 5 trades in a row, then expect 10 in a row in live trading. Doing this will help you ascertain the right risk management for when the losing streaks come and then you'll be able to handle it better.

I think this is a really good prompt for a conversation about how different people “value” a start up. I want to be straightforward that I am not going to tell you what you should or shouldn’t do but going to point out how my firm or even I, if we were investing, would look at this. I want to be upfront that this may make you uncomfortable but, I’d encourage you to think on it.

First: there’s not a product without a market. It doesn’t matter how great a product, an app, an idea is. If there’s no market there is no product. A very simplistic example is people need to get from point A to point B. They could walk, drive, fly etc. in some cases tennis shoes might be fine and in others you may need a 777. Knowing which solution your customer wants determines what you build.

Second: As I read through this I don’t see where you’ve place any value on her time invested. You’re valuing your time at $125/hr. She’s invested on the conservative side 780hrs of her time. Meaning she’s spent neatly 80% more time working towards making the business a reality. Time is money and I’m guessing that she has a full time career that doesn’t make min wage.

Her: 780
You: 140

Value of Time:
Her: $0
You: $125

Capital:
Her: $8,000
You: $0

Third: do you believe in the product? Do you think there is a viable market here and that the product you’ve built could serve said market. If so, who’s to say she couldn’t find someone else to build it?

Finally: She’s offering to let you to fund this over 4years. So you’re looking at $2,000/yr over 4yrs. We would always look at the PV/TVM of any investment. Conservatively at 5% discount rate her $8,000 is worth ~$900 more than the $8,000 over 4 yrs she’s asking you to contribute.

I can tell you if we were the outside investing party. This would be much closer to as 70:30 split in her favor if not more.

Electricity costs 15 rupees per unit in Maharashtra and 6.5 in Gujarat. This is just one paramter. In general, cost of doing business is significantly higher in Maharashtra than any other state.

Normis on this sub will blame everything on Gujrat lobby but will completely ignore obvious reasons why new manufacturing units don't come to Maharashtra.
