There is a reason why most large old cities in TN are temple cities. The temples in those cities were like churches for Christians - that's where social gatherings would happen and people would meet. It's not like things are so different now - my grandparents used to go to the Pillaiyar temple near our neighbourhood regularly where they would meet other oldies. It's just that this practice of regularly going to temples is not a religious mandate for Hindus. Some regularly go to temples because of social reasons or for faith. But Christians regularly go every week for their Mass, since it's mandated by their religion. So when people are busy with a million other things, and nothing makes people go to a temple every week compulsorily, the support group that temples form crumbles. Christian church groups remain because they must go to church every week compulsorily.

And before someone misunderstands: Don't take this as me crying that Hindus are in threat. This is just me stating a fact. I'm an atheist, anyhow.
