I’ve done this many times

1. If your friend has not left I recommend go to any forex centre get cash and give him cash this will save you 5%that they charge there for card usage, 5%tax that you get reimbursed will be only around 3%so you lose 2%here
2. If he is already there - STRICT NO on debit card usage directly on POS - shope charges,bank charges,forex charges,gst everything will apply
3. If your friend has credit card check forex charges 5% will be extra
4. If he has INR currency cash which is unlikely they take it there for 1%charge
5. He can withdraw from atm using debit card to avoid 5%+2% but forex charges and gst will be applied, for 80k I paid some 5k I think i don’t remember
6. Best solution ask him if he can transfer inr to someone there and get dhirams or ask him to check with some shops people would be willing as they can ask you to send to their Indian account as into save their charges and give their dhirams
7. Customs nothing tell him to open the box leep the phone in povket or bag he’s good to go
If at all he gets caught tell him to tell its his phone that’s it
