3 primary reasons:

1. There’s a lot that happens in the world that’s out of our control. When people are truly helpless, the feeling of a prayer to something more powerful that can change the odds in your favor is powerfully attractive. Much better alternative than accepting there is nothing you can do.

2. Lack of ability to process complexity. We live in a world of 8 billions people constantly interacting. This complex a system will throw out some remarkably weird coincidences/experiences. Just the law of large numbers. Most people will accumulate a number of really strange, unexplainable experiences (good or bad) in their lifetime. Now, combine that with the need of the brain to prescribe a reason to everything, and people believe in higher powers moving things in or away from their direction v/s believing in random chance.

3. We’re all apes after all. Monkey see, monkey do. If everyone around you believes it, we have evolved to not rock the boat. This is something that’s literally handed down from parents to kids from birth and reinforced by social circles, it becomes part of identity and at that point questioning it is nigh impossible.

That’s what I have observed in life so far.

It takes a lot of courage to question #3 and not look out for help from #1 and it takes a lot of maturity to conclude #2.

Has Circle donated anything to a good cause or is every move they make some underhanded bs?
