It's perfectly hyped. While I don't personally like cricket much, it is one of our most consistent sports team ever since Kapil Dev's captaincy, that is for about 40 years. And it's not like other sports are completely neglected. Wrestling is popular in Punjab/Harayana, chess is popular in Tamil Nadu, and so on. But chess is not marketable, and team sports usually have more funding, so cricket dominates our country.

I have seen similar loss in family... people need to realise that if God gives you grief He also gives you strength to endure..also not everyone is into public display of grief too. My aunt who survived this loss is still struggling with her mental and physical health. She has to take sleeping pills initially which she is trying to wean off of now but it's really difficult. But during her public appearances she tried to look as collected as possible. Only those who are really close to her can see a difference. From others I have heard similar statements of "Badhi strong hai, bete ka dard sah gai"
