The usual answer: it depends, but generally you should spend the least time possible on such topics.

GDPR and basic security isn't that hard but proving that you're doing it is harder because you need provable processes in place.

Like most things company related, from 0 to 10k$ monthly you're basically a pirate or a street thug, whatever you are doing won't be clean, compliant or perfectly legal. Your edge is that you can go through the small cracks, if you refuse to go through them then the whole game becomes significantly harder. No legal authority cares about you because you're too small, even if you spam your whole customer base constantly it's too small to have any consequences.
