Many cofounders, including those who wouldn't otherwise be considered narcissistic, over estimate their value and their future performance. They think the company will be wildly successful, of course, otherwise they wouldn't start it in the first place. But this assumption of success is connected to what they think they are going to do to make it successful. They are picturing themselves performing a levels above all others including their own past selves.

I've worked with these people before. One of my cofounders thought he was so important that he wrote the operating agreement to cover his interests even at the expense of others. So, when others (including me) did more work than him he benefited disproportionately.

This is the problem with working with narcissists, they think they deserve more than they do deserve and will take steps to cover their own butts at the expense of others.
