- try to look for checks - make sure you don’t miss any easy mate in 1, 2 etc

- check if you can capture any of the opponents pieces easily. Example: in one position, you could have taken the opponent’s knight.

- make sure you don’t leave your pieces undefended. It’s ok (atleast for beginners) to lose a piece to a tactic, but not simply by leaving with no one defending it.


Just keeping these 3 things in mind can improve your game drastically. Also play 10 min games, so that you have time to think in each move.

It’s not that tough trust me

What you described is unfortunately a problem all over. Taking advantage of elderly is rampant especially medically. It's so sad and ridiculous what these awful fraudsters try to put elderly people through so they can line their pockets. Disgusting.
