The world population could drop by half and it would still be at 1974 levels. Where does this idea of doom and gloom if people don't have more babies come from? People are still having families, just not everyone. The real problem is businesses are closing factories and store chains are downsizing. Small towns don't have jobs anymore so of course people are moving and the towns are collapsing. Bring back the things that made those towns attractive to live in and people will want to go back.

I had some similar experience, during the end of high-school I went into severe depression due to academic peer pressure & exm anxiety, it's not like I'm a complete shut in...I'm in uni...but most days I just avoid going out at any cost possible...god knows how I will be doing 9-5 job & all the shit
