I think the problem lies in how it is perceived.

We've seen actors, people in glamorous positions, top corporate businessmen smoking cigarettes.

Banarsi paan or just normal paan is something which is consumed in family functions or in normal households too. Parents even go with their kids to have paan. Although the kids might get the meetha paan without the tobacco and all.

But we never see any of the above people having Kharra.
Tbh, from what all limited experiences I've had, I've only seen auto drivers or similar people having Kharra.
I don't mean to judge them at all or look down on them, but it's just what I've seen

And from all this, a certain perception gets created which makes the majority to look down on Kharra.

The key is when you stop viewing yourself as just a actor/director from Sri Lanka and start thinking as an actor/director, and are just as good as anyone else in this area.
