1960s: A concrete plane at Juhu Garden, Santacruz West

The Air-India Boeing 707 model stood proudly in Juhu Garden, also known as Nehru Park. It was a part of countless childhoods.

Made of reinforced concrete, the plane depicted an Air-India Boeing 707-436. The cabin and flight deck had “seats” where kids could sit, pretending to fly high in the sky. It was more than a structure—it was an adventure.

Sadly, this iconic model met a tragic end. In March 2009, a piece of the plane fell off, fatally injuring a 9-year-old boy. By January 2011, the old airplane was scrapped and replaced with a modern version.

A piece of Bombay’s heritage, gone but never forgotten.
