And for this thing to exist, the form of purdah existing in other parts cannot work. That's why women are more open and in some cases matriarchy is followed in some parts of the North east. And this has nothing to do with religion. I have seen in Kashmir too , though the population is muslim , Muslim women can be seen working on farms , grazing cattles, etc doing shoulder to shoulder with men.
