The stigma of bad behaviour by few and those "influencers" on Insta and Youtube have made things difficult for those who ride for the love of the ride.


Having owned a "superbike", this stigma of street racing often is tough to deal with, especially the general public and cops who see riders with gear and immediately assume that they are going to ride fast and in an irresponsible manner. A good example of this: living in Bengaluru, there is a stretch of highway that goes towards Kolar. Most riders know this and have had cops stop them on Sunday mornings or have had buddies stopped and turned back. Why? Racing on the highway for the most part. Locals are tired of loud fart cans screaming along the highway on Sunday mornings. These days, any rider unlucky to be there on that Sunday when the cops have their barricades up has to put up with shouting, abuses, documents, and keys being taken and returned after bribes are paid or if lucky, just forced to turn back and head home.

Ride to have fun but do so responsibly instead of behaving like loons. Ride with gear instead of finding all manner of excuses ranging from prices, and weather to even hair loss. Hospital bills will far exceed any price for gear or paying for a track day event.

I've done a couple of track days at MMRT and Kari. While not my cup of tea, the time spent learning the basics far outweighed the cost or inconvenience of going there. Over time, the learning from these events pays for itself by making you a safer and better rider. If people don't have access to these places, there really is no excuse to indulge in unsafe behavior on public roads and putting others at risk. I hope riders get this and push that message out and people change.
