First and foremost, this is terrifying. As a woman I always felt our city was much safer but this challenges my belief.

You can help her by getting her in touch with helplines that offer counselling for free. There are many out there but most of them are useless.

OP this is where you have to work on vetting the best available counselling services. Right now she needs to recover, her family needs to strengthen themselves. This isn't something anyone can causally shake off. Yes she might lose her year in college, but she is alive, she is free but mostly importantly she needs to know she is a hero. She did the best, she did nothing to bring this on.

Have no love for Avinash, but let’s face it. Chahat’s mother is quite toxic. She is treating her grown up daughter like a child. This is patriarchy 101. The amount of control she is exerting, the lack of agency Chahat shows- very worrying. Chahat is only good when she supports the family financially, but everything else must be done with mother’s approval and liking. Very troubling

In the past few months, I have felt emotionally alive and I have received the most affection, without asking for it, without expectations, without judgements, without pretentions, without lies, without a fake facade, without pushbacks, without any repulsion, and more signficantly without expectations of who I’m supposed to be in someone else’s image. Accepted for who I am at that very moment. I don’t need to be told what to say, what to express, how to express….and my heart has enough space to speaks its mind. I feel emotionally alive again.

In these very moments, I have found a sort of emotional closure. If I were to die today, I will die in peace, rest in peace – knowing that atleast one person displayed a modicum of affection and acceptance.
