What I have seen is that they are fine when selecting mode of payment as 'Cash' and then, pay them via UPI. Confirm with them if they call that 'I selected Cash but I can pay only via UPI directly to you'. But if you select any other means it first goes to Uber's account and then, to them. So they avoid such rides all together.

When I book rides for others(who cannot pay via UPI or Cash), I ask the person to give their QR code. And on drop I confirm and pay them.

If the location to payment is off then, they usually wont accept itself. All Uber drivers can see the total amount and location, but they cannot see if payment is 'Cash' or other means.

For this scenario you can ask for refund and you would get it back but overall the hassle experienced won't go away.

Many people say the foreigners being racist as one of the reasons, and if you think about that from their perspective, many times they are absolutely justified. For example, the corporates like cheap labor, and expats are willing and happy to work at lower rates than a local. So they drive down wages, and the locals lose their jobs.
