A big Indian population still lives in community and groups. And are dependent on each other for so many things.
So while in western countries marriage = union of 2 people
Here in India marriage = union of 2 communities/families


Hence this creates a situation where parents think from their perspective while their children think from another.
And most Indian children are never taught to lead their lives on their own, They can't take their decisions, And always succumb to their family's pressure.
While is the case of majority of Indians, But there is a population of Indian Men and Women who take their own decision if they feel its right for them. And many times they even separate from their families if asked to.
And there are many parents that I have seen who are very logical towards the marriage and have open discussions with logic and facts. And if you have proper reasoning they agree to marry whoever their children wishes to marry.
