If you have a hobby in which you are skillful and/or passionate, I would highly recommend looking for Meetup groups tailored to that interest. As someone on the autism spectrum myself, my range of passions and hobbies are naturally quite limited, and I struggle intensely to connect with other people outside of those contexts. It was initially quite terrifying at first, essentially plunging myself into the deep end of social interaction at a noisy ass pub after, like you, having barely spoken to a single stranger for an ungodly period, but I quickly acclimated and came to make quite a few friends this way. Given that I was already somewhat well-versed and passionate about the theme of the meetup group in question, I was able to present myself much more confidently and connect with others more easily as a result. Also just feels good to forgo all the normie small talk bullshit about work and start a conversation by talking about Japanese phonetics like it's the most normal thing in the world lol. If something like that seems a bit too overwhelming for you to begin with, maybe start first by practicing via reading tips for social skills and/or making friends online to gradually ease yourself into socializing again. I'd happily be your friend myself.
