I don’t it works that well, at best it’s a homage or parody because the film doesn’t have the depth DDLJ has simply cause it’s set within India itself where the distance between city life and small town life doesn’t really have a big difference in the 2010s.

In comparison, DDLJ showcases how the distinction between the NRI Indian and village Indians might be greater on the surface but there’s a great bridge and balance of modernity and traditional that can define the Indian of the 90s.

None of that thematic depth is original to Humpty and nor is it truly reflected by the film. It’s a surface level rom-com.

What works for DDLJ and what really worked for it then is that it was capturing a snapshot of India going global and the value system of India evolving yet not forgetting its core.
