1. You can’t do it yourself. No matter how much you study. Could I replace a roof just by watching you tube videos? I worked at an agency and grinded for a year with a mentor on many sites before I had a handle on it. I got really good at roofing websites from him. Then I took his formula and improved it. Now I have an agency that does nothing but roofing.

2. When you accept that you cannot do it DIY and go to hire someone, hire someone that specializes in your industry. While all SEO is similar in how it works, Google wants to see certain things for certain industries and meeting search intent for a med spa is going to be different than a contractor. Plus a roofing SEO will know the entities to use.
3. Make sure the freelancer or agency can show you examples of recent wins. The whole point is to rank for transactional keywords. So they should be able to show you where they have clients ranking well for “roofing San Jose” and so on. If they can show you these results ( most cannot ) then ask how they would do the same for you.
4. SEO is a slow burn so run local service ads while you implement SEO.. don’t waste any money on PPC. When you do LSA, you only pay for QUALIFIED leads that call you. I have clients that are booked out half a year in advance from nothing but running local service ads. So make sure the agency is experienced in optimizing LSA profiles.
