North Indians have much more political power thanks to a higher population. Always have, always will. They then use this power to tell everyone else how to live. It’s tiresome as hell.

I went to engineering college in the south. Every branch of engineering had exactly half the students from other states. So a lot of Hindi speakers from nearly every state. In 4 years of college, they learned nothing about Tamil. They learned one word (“anna”, meaning bhaiya) and that’s it. So I know exactly what 500 North Indians in my year, and 1500 in other years were willing to do in practice - literally nothing.

I’m not blaming them, mind you. Learning a language is hard. Especially a language that is from a different language family (Dravidian, not Indo-European) and a different script. The incentive is lower as well, because most urban Tamil people will speak English. So I understand why they didn’t bother to learn.

But it feels a bit galling when they say “you need to learn Hindi for national unity”, when that effort clearly doesn’t go both ways. Only *we* have to bend over backwards to meet *them* where they are, while they do literally nothing.

Hahaha even my father says call when you reach VT 😂. My uncle who works in BMC says if you have any problem or emergency take a taxi and come to VT 😂😂
