* Founders with a tech background tend to overemphasize technology and not “how do I build a business out of this.” You are building a startup **business**, not a tech stack, unless you just want someone to dive in and acquire your intellectual property. 
* Founders with a tech background also tend to think that because they came from a college major that was hard to get in, that they automatically know more than the professionals in their own line of work. You might have had a higher GPA in high school. That doesn’t translate to how much of a better accountant you are than, say, a CPA. You need people who do good work in their own line of work. Learn from them.

Under the same vein, understand what each “department” of the company is for, and why they might be important.

* Do you know why a good CFO might be important and when you should get one? How about your marketing team, what do they do? Can you tell the difference between a good marketing person versus a not so good one? 
* The more you learn about each function of the company, the more you can lead efficiently. In the end, the best founders tend to have a good enough understanding of each department themselves. It’s a steep learning curve. You need to know it all (somewhat).
