In terms of conversion, Sarkar is pretty well adapted. It isn't the legacy that Godfather is but it is a very well adapted story. Unlike the likes of Dhamal which do a scene by scene remake, it lifted the plot elements and dynamic casted American/Italian struggles to indian/marathi settings.

I also like Awara Pagal Deewana. The whole nine yards is fun but the extra characters they added to awara pagal deewana seemed fun at the time. Not every movie is a classic - Awara Paagal Deewana worked at the time and doesn't hold up now (I think the bruce Willis version still has rewatch value) but it was a good take on the basic premise. Also I've always found it fun to watch mixtures of multiple movies.

On that note, Kaante is a personal favorite. It adds elements to the source material and takes it's own shape.

Ghulam does justice to the source material as well. It is pretty much a scene by scene remake however.

Ghajini is a great shout for me.. Certainly inspired by Memnto by Nolan.. I just think Ghajini for me stands up high in this list. In itself, comparisons aside, Ghajini is a great film with Amir Khan filling Guy Pearce’s role wonderfully, if not possibly better.

Honourable mention to Phir Hera Pheri (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels).. an iconic film in Indian cinema fr.
