Wow, it's like my thoughts written. I did few hours taking care of dogs at some dog house, taking out their crap and all. It was stressful and i had heart pain at that time so i got f out from there. * Connect it to USB3.0 port
* Format it as APFS… GUID...
* Install MacOs on it
* **Boot from it**
* Recover data from TM

No screwdriver needed.



Thunderbolt 2/1 ports don't deliver enough power to run Thunderbolt 3 devices, so you can only use an adapter with Thunderbolt 3 devices that have their own separate power cable.These are rare and expensive and after extensive search I settled on standardUSB 3.0 SSD for 2013 IMac.

Now iMac runs much faster under Catalina

Install MacOs It will likely to be Mojave ... it will upgrade to Catalina

Recover TM to system drive
