I've literally just experienced the same issue. I really want to use Safari but it's not easy. As a Chrome user for many years Safari seems to be lacking but the keychain password sync makes me want to stick with it.

Yes this can all be done with Google but having to sign out of profiles on my iPhone and iPad makes it difficult.

I've just updated my DNS to Google. Removed all a couple of extensions which had to bad reputation for hogging resources and cleared my history.
