Kamala Harris Electrifies Audience at NAACP Image Awards in First TV Appearance Since Leaving Office | “Our power has never come from having an easy path,” said the former VP while accepting the prestigious Chairman’s Award.
We have power, somebody should tell Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer, because they are saying otherwise.
Meanwhile Bernie Sanders who’s 87 is traveling across the country doing town halls and telling people not only that they have power but how to use it. Maybe people like Kamala can do more directly instead of spouting some flowery nonsense. -

The Madras High Court orders a CBI investigation into the Rs 5,832 crore illegal beach sand mining scam in Tamil Nadu. The court has highlighted official corruption, a possible political nexus, and national security concerns.
This mining scam is going on for years in those areas. An old article on this. Unfortunately the mining mafia is well connected and politically backed by both centre and state.

As a North Indian tired of seeing hate between us, I’d like know from South Indians themselves whats wrong? And how to make it right?
If there were more North Indians like the OP, I truly believe there would be no hate from the South Indians. However, reading all the comments from some North Indians, I can see why South Indians hate North Indians. -

As a North Indian tired of seeing hate between us, I’d like know from South Indians themselves whats wrong? And how to make it right?
OP, I've read most of the comments here and they somewhat convey the general feeling of the south, even as some comments are really hateful (which is understandable, but not justifiable in my opinion). I'll sum up the points already mentioned and add some of my own perspective to it, while trying to be pragmatic and stoic:
**1. Population**: Most people say language is the main friction point but I partially disagree. It's that the numerical strength of the Hindi heartland has been increasing rapidly in the last few decades. In 1961, the ratio of southern states (TN, KL, KA, AP, TG) to that of the heartland (UP, BR, MP, RJ, CG, JH, HR, UK, HP) was 110 million : 175 million or **1: 1.59**. According to some 2024 estimates, it's 272 million : 656 million or **1:2.41**.
This is only expected to increase for the next decade or so, although most states in the north have reduced their fertility rate to near the replacement rate of 2.1 (except Bihar). To my South Indian friends, I argue this is a place where our tax money has been used somewhat efficiently. The fertility rate in the north has declined from \~4 in 2000 to just above 2 in 2025.
The major issue related to population is political representation. If delimitation is done based on a census conducted after 2026, Parliament will be skewed in favour of the north. The moral argument of each person's vote counting equally no matter which state they live will subsume the practical considerations of (relatively) developed states getting less representation.
**2. Language:** I'll give a perspective that doesn't involve culture/language wars since others have talked about it. I pose two questions here:
i) Which state is the most proud of and vocal about protecting its native language, so much so that the language is present in the state's name itself!?
ii) Which state was the first to advocate for and adopt English in its school and college systems?
The answer to both of those questions is Tamil Nadu. It's evident from TN's example that wanting to use English has nothing to with colonial mindset or cultural inferiority (which some North Indians accuse us of having). The south was as colonized by the British as the north was. Our contributions to the freedom movement and post-colonial reconstruction was none lesser than those of other regions.
The most pragmatic argument for English (and not Hindi) in my opinion is economics. Having a good grasp of English is vital in our growing service-oriented economy. People tend to forget that having a huge English-speaking population is one of our most important comparative advantages in the service sector compared to other developing countries. English opens up a plethora of professional opportunities and educational resources for young people, that Hindi can never hope to match. -

When you say or think to yourself my service is a "clearer and modern solution." You've acknowledge that there is a competing solution. If there were not, what would your solution be clearer than?
Unless the problem you solve never existed before, there's compeitition. People are doing something to solve that problem.
