Yes, all this and more. A highly qualified and well-employed person I know got a divorce after facing this sort of treatment from her equally well-employed husband from a highly educated family... whilst living abroad where he worked for a global organisation in a senior position. People may move continents. They don't always move mindsets along with it.

Some of the situations in the movies are wildly accurate. Right down to the expectation that the wife whonwas better qualifies than her husband (however well employed herself, going back to work in the new country after her marriage was her first act of defiance) will take a much smaller job like a teaching assistant or day shift receptionist that will allow her to run her home singlehandedly (abroad, not even in India) to her in-laws' specifications.
