"Crawlers have the ability to execute javascript" this is true, but these resources might be capped. Example imagine you are Google and you need to index 5 million pages a day x 2 seconds each vs 5 million x 0.5 seconds each. As I remember, there was a quote on how much compute google will spend on your site before it refuses to run your javascript... because it costs them resources.

Not considering, if your JS fails to run for any reason (because crawlers are a blackbox) then you are screwed because you won't get ranked.

Also, real-time content (or time-sensitive content) will get severally penalized.
