I'm a dev who got into business, here's a few things I learned:

* No one cares about how cool your technology is. And they don't want to know what stack you used. What they *do* care about is whether you are solving a problem for them.
* Build it fast, not well. Your goal isn't to build the perfect product. It's to get it in front of your userbase as soon as possible so that you can get feedback. Try reading The Lean Startup.
* There's no points for doing it yourself. In school, you're used to making things yourself so that you can demonstrate your knowledge. Again though, now your priority is getting the product out the door. For example: Let's say that your product needs to display PDFs. The college way is to write a PDF engine. The startup way is to buy a cheap PDF solution for $50 and use the plugin.
* Marketing matters. If you build it they will come is a myth. You need to come up with a strategy for getting people excited about your product.
