Purely personal viewpoint, this is not targeting anyone's belief


I think marriage specifically as an institution has lost its core, when it started there were distinctive demarcations as per gender and age for different roles in "family". But with changing times the concept of family has not changed at least not the way gender and age roles have changed.
People are now more mature and have a wider perspective to see life from different angles. But the concept of family remained largely the same.


With this out of the way, now coming to the OP's question



Yes, there is no need for only a man to be a provider at least not in the modern family setting (rurals have much more pressing issues to deal with before they come to these things) BUT the problem here is not how a man doesn't have to be a provider or a woman has to be homemaker but the imprinted ideas in our head.


Most if not all Indians have grown under the shadow of our parents who adhere to gender roles and subconsciously our minds are hardwired to do similar things knowingly or unknowingly, and that is why people still judge girls on the scale of how good she is in terms of home making and how much a guy is earning, majority of government job aspirants are in that field not because they will lead a stable life but because government job gives more social credits helping in creating a more stable family in which they can be provider.


Now, a question for all. How many girls have married unemployed or struggling boys or are willing to do so? And will your parents allow that? Will the boy's ego allow that?


We need better societal norms and change people's perspective otherwise rather than the Idea being outdated it will be the only available option

Actually what I’ve learned is: Everyone has great ideas. It’s 20% idea 80% execution. So take a simple sheet of paper and write down how you can execute this.

And if you can’t (because of lack of money, time or skills) find people who can.
