I'm going to be honest here and maybe even disliked immensely for this answer- but in the Indian context, there is still a large difference between a house husband and a house wife. I've been married for 20 years and my husband's job is a transfer job. His job also has women in different fields whose husbands are house husbands because of the transfer factor. And from my observation, the expectations from a housewife are soooo different from those of a house husband, whether it comes to child care, house maintenance, in laws and even social obligations. The husband comes back home from work and if he has a housewife, there's very little expectation from him wrt to the house (he's making the money) but when the wives come back, they have to take over childcare and housework, even in laws will still have the same expectations they have from a housewife (the wife's parents are still secondary) . I'm not saying that it's right, but unfortunately this is what it is. So while I support house husbands as a concept, I can also understand why many women are unwilling to settle down with househusbands- it's a genuine fear of carrying a load for two. Also, other people aren't very kind to house husbands and resentment may fester.
