There is always a mix of systematic and discretionary trading. It will never be full on 1 side.

If you trade on full discretionary there is no way to anticipate and focus on profit through probabilities. So that does not bring an edge.

If you trade on full systetmatic you are not a person. These are EAs, bots and algorithms. So not possible for us individuals.

When you aproach the market with 4 guideline rules you are being quite discretionary. Lets say if you focus on trading momentums. You will watch the trend. And the structure of how price forms around current behaviors. This means that you have a system on how you even view price, through a lens.

While my edge focusses on 1 fractal that can differ in behaviors through 4 main components of that fractal. There are behaviors that have a lot of impact on the probability of the setup. So I do have multiple do’s and dont’s. And I never trade a different structure than a clear price-swing. Always the same way of positioning and setting things up. While taking the direction, pressure and expectations of price in whole through discretionary and instinct.

My compagnon trades with 80% discretionary. He brings the opposite views just like you told. But he is very aware to focus on the main components that bring him the edge.

yeah I'm only 8 months in and I already figured out what you're talking about in about a month. Since you're description is so vague I can tell you're really far off on the hunch that you stumbled across. After straight losses for a month I also realized what you're realizing, all trades that are being made are only derivatives of one singular master trading plan/ strategy. I came up with the original idea in a month, took 8 damn months to hone the execution because I was studying under some asshat who was the biggest help and also the biggest hinderance to my strategy that I was trying to give birth to.
