For authentic Punjabi/Haryanvi food, visit F3 Cafe, Opp. Priya Talkies. I have been there so many times and they have never disappointed.

Most high-end bars/pubs/clubs verify your age before they let you in (if you look like you’re not 21 yet.. which you aren’t). That said, it shouldn’t be much of a hassle to walk in anyway if you’re able to convince the bouncers.

I’d categorize “partying” in Chennai into 4 buckets:

1. High-end clubs.

Brasa (Radisson Blu), Blend (Taj Clubhouse), Pasha/Lather Bar (The Park), Radio Room (Somerset), AS 365 (Hyatt Regency), and Cheroot (ITC Grand Chola).

These are places that are open until 3/4 AM during the weekend (Fri/Sat). They’re usually open only after 6 PM because most folks end up here pretty late as these places are considered ‘after-party’ clubs (post 10/11 PM).

These places are pretty expensive. For anyone.

2. Upper mid-end.

These are your everyday pubs/clubs that are open pretty much the entire day until 12/1 AM.

Secret Story, Black Orchid, Baraccuda Brew, Off The Record, Thief, Hard Rock Cafe, Sekhmet, Watson’s, Dank, Sin & Tonic, East Coast by Madras Square, Hub at ECR, Macaw, Lord of the Drinks, etc.

These places aren’t too expensive, but as a 19-year old, you might find these places slightly expensive.

3. Mid-end.

These are places that aren’t as expensive as the above categories, so they won’t break the bank, but are still pretty decent.

Cycle Gap, Pitcherr Perfect, Pause, Ministry of Drinks, Odin’s Galley, Libarrel, Purple Chameleon, etc.

4. Low-end.

These are buddy-bars/uncle bars that offer a chill vibe. Usually, regulars frequent these places. People looking to party don’t usually end up here. These are just bars. Relatively cheap.

Skyline Rooftop Bar, Trella, .. there’s a lot more.

Hope this paints a decent picture of what’s out there in Chennai. Again, I’d ask you to be cautious as you’re not 21 yet, and I’d also urge you to take folks who you know and trust well - and legal to drink.

I'm South Indian, and I'll tell you my part. Education has come a long way in breaking the casteist mentality for my generation. Like in class, nobody I mean absolutely nobody gives a solitary fk about your caste. It's all macha and maga. In fact we never ever know each other's cast for the most part, unless it is for some kind of scholarship or something. Discriminating somebody based on some caste that they were born into always seemed like taboo, and the one who even dared to do it would most likely be alienated. Educational institutions today in India are really doing the job consciously/sub consciously or even involuntarily. All you have to do is bring people together under a common bracket ( education and academia) and you will see people become homogeneous. The caste and creed disappear like anything.
