I feel like thailand really attracts the worst of indian travelers because i remember while staying at a hotel in pattaya, there was a big group from india, probably for a corporate trip or something. 1. Kodaikanal is rife with scammers especially in real estate. Be extremely careful, and you're still likely to get scammed one way or other.


2. The whole homestay thing is a mafia. Officually, you need a commercial license to run it. You'll need labor department, this and that, a whole set of regulations and your taxes will be sky high. Chances are they also won't give you those approvals if you apply. It's basically running a hotel. But people run homestays without getting those approvals, not everyone but people who are connected to political personalities and have clout in caste groups. They'll offer prices at dirt cheap rates which you can't compete with, they won't pay taxes, and they'll deal in mostly black money. If you try to join the game, they'll legally bust you. The sentiment is "who are you to come from somewhere and run a homestay here".

Overall Kodaikanal is a great place to visit. Ooty is somewhat better but still the same thing.

This is basically what killed the thriving resort industry on ECR too. Now all that's left is high priced resorts like Taj and Sheraton on one side, and illegal establishments running on agricultural property owned by political mafia on the other side. There's no space for legitimate small-medium businessesmen unless you're part of the mafia. Used to be a thing before the early 90s / late 80s. But JJ started it and DMK continued taking over everything. By mid 90s it was all gone. And by early 2000s everything was in these two parties' pockets.

This won't change unless Indian laws on homestays, food trucks etc changes. The powers that be won't change the laws because it allows them to keep running illegal monopolies in these areas. This is why they fight so hard to come to power in the first place, why would they support changing it?

Idk why families just want the men to crush their dreams and make sacrifices. I needed a bike (I was fine with a 150cc) but my father forced me to give up and bought a scooter for "me" citing that a scooter is needed for "family purposes" even though we had another scooter in our home.


10 months down the line I am the only who uses it, he doesn't even use it until there's no other options left. For context : money was never a problem considering the scooter costed 1.12 lakh and the bike I wanted would have costed 1.4, we even a have a car that costed 8.5 lakh in 2021. It was not a money issue but rather my father's ego issue.


If its your own money then get what you want my guy, your family would be upset for a few weeks and then it will be gone. You aren't gonna be young forever.
