I have an old walkman which has suddenly stopped working. Specifically, when I press play it does nothing. Despite fresh batteries. I am a tinkerer AND my assumption is that the spring is rusted too much and hence the DC current is not flowing. I have opened and fixed instax mini, refurbished graphic cards etc etc numerous times in the past also because I didn’t fear losing them.
