Why is YouTube forcing us to watch ads?

I have been having trouble watching YouTube using the Brave browser, which doesn't have an ad-blocker extension; it is built-in. It's so dumb. I have to watch ads to enjoy a video. I don't want to see ads. Please stop making us watch ads to watch a video. I know you need to have ads for Revenue, but it's just really ridiculous. Maybe have ads on the side, or be muted?
