  • The Origin of the name “Bezawada” – Tunnel at Chittinagar and Arjuna’s Legend

The origin of name “Bezawada” said to have roots from Mahabharatha (or from geography too). 1. In Mahabharatha, At the request of Goddess Krishna River to flow freely into bay of bengal (since Indrakeeladri hill blocks the path), Arjuna carved a “bejjam” (hole) through the Indrakeeladri hills to let the Krishna River flow freely. This gave rise to the name “Bejjamwada”, later becoming Bezawada. Source: [Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vijayawada) 2. (From some News sources) In the 1960s, the tunnel at Chittinagar was excavated (on Indrakeeladri hills). The term “Bezawada” likely comes from “Bejjam” (“hole” or “tunnel”) and “Wada” (“place”).
