    Battle of Bundelkhand, 1729

The Battle of Bundelkhand, 1729 was a crucial conflict between the Mughal Empire and the Bundelas, led by Maharaja Chhatrasal. Overwhelmed by the invading Mughal forces under Muhammad Khan Bangash, Chhatrasal, in his plea for help, wrote a poetic letter to Peshwa Baji Rao I, comparing his plight to that of Gajendra Moksha, the legendary elephant king who was rescued by Lord Vishnu from the clutches of a crocodile. Answering this call, Baji Rao launched a swift and decisive campaign, crushing the Mughal forces and liberating Bundelkhand. This victory was more than just a military triumph—it was a powerful symbol of Indian unity against oppression, where Bundelas and Marathas stood together to defend their land, culture, and freedom from Mughal oppression.
