Why Does News Affect The Stock Market?

I understand that negative news, stock market crashes, and other factors can cause people to sell a security, but why? For example: If Nvidia loses 3 manufacturing factories to fires, why do people start selling? Yes, it's bad, but what would happen if everyone continued trading like it never happened? What makes people and institutions really drop out of a stock? I hope I'm wording my question correctly 😬
