Recycle Glass bottles

I recently came to know that glass bottles aren't picked by kabadiwallas. I wonder why ? Some told me it has been banned for some time now. I have of a pile of bottles sitting at my home Does anyone have an idea about how to recycle these ? I have been suggested to throw away in garbage which i am not comfortable
