Out of curiosity, would a single man or woman consider dating/marrying a divorcee, especially in Tamil Nadu? I’m a Malaysian Tamil, but my ancestors are from different parts of Tamil Nadu. I’ve never been to India, but I once dated a guy from Tamil Nadu. We were deeply connected emotionally and soulfully, but he eventually broke things off with me. I tried to move on, but unfortunately, I couldn’t. I ended up getting married, but the relationship didn’t work out, and we divorced after a year. Our marriage was more like an intimate engagement — we exchanged rings in front of 20 family members from both sides and completed a civil registration. However, I called off the wedding ceremony as soon as the discussions began, realising I wasn’t ready to move forward while still in love with someone else. It’s been over five years since we broke up, and I still can’t stop thinking about him. During those years, we kept in touch, and he would often text me, expressing regret for breaking up and saying he missed me — until I got engaged. After calling off the wedding, I reached out to him again. He’s still unmarried but told me his family wouldn’t accept me now because I’m divorced. There’s more to this situation, but my main question is: Do single men and women in Tamil Nadu still hold a stigma against someone who was previously engaged or married? What would you consider? 1. Divorced without kids 2. Divorced with kids 3. Both are fine 4. Neither5
