Blaming DMK for Vijayakanth/DMDK downfall is not only made with malicious intentions but also is factually wrong. Here's a brief of the chronology.
#2006 Vijayakanth and his DMDK face elections for the first time. Vijayakanth is the only DMDK winner and becomes an MLA. In all other constituencies, DMDK holds the 3rd position in number of votes earned. DMK forms government. Kalaignar Karunanidhi becomes the Chief Minister. J Jayalalitha becomes the Leader of Opposition. #2011 This is an important election and happened to be the litmus test for Vijayakanth. But Vijayakanth wanted to navigate conservatively. Vijayakanth chose to align with Jayalalitha and face the elections. ADMK standing in majority of the seats and DMDK in the rest. DMK was marred with allegations like the 2G scam, and hence probably might have felt intimidated by the ADMK-DMDK alliance. To counter Vijayakanth, Vadivelu was roped in for election campaign. His attacks were often personally motivated. Consequently, DMK lost by a huge margin. ADMK alliance wins the election. DMDK splits from the alliance just before the government is formed. With the 2nd largest MLA count, DMDK forms the opposition, and Vijayakanth the Leader of Opposition. DMK has lots to reflect and learn from this election. They were right at the bottom. #2016 Important changes had happened. BJP forms the government at the centre, with DMDK and PMK as alliance partners. Despite this, DMK is cleared away from the 2G spectrum case, taking everyone by surprise - There was no scam at all; 1.76 lakh crore is just a notional value and not actual value. DMK comes back better prepared to face the state election. Also, Kalaignar Karunanidhi is aging and all authoritative powers were smoothly transitioned to M K Stalin, who was in a position to take strategic decisions. One thing became clear - Vijayakanth is an important power in Tamil Nadu. For months, everyone was speculating what he would do. DMK realized it and were already in conversation to woo DMDK, especially after the series of electrifying clashes between Vijayakanth and Jayalalitha. But, for Vijayakanth, this election was a litmus test to validate his potential. He chose to maintain his independence from aligning with either of the Dravidian parties. But Vijayakanth was perceived to have too much of a potential than what he was encashing. That's what other political parties thought, and they did something extremely surprising (ridiculous in hindsight) - VCK, MDMK, CPI form The 3rd Front, and then convince Vijayakanth to join them, with Vijayakanth as the Chief Minister candidate. These trio leaders (VCK's Thirumavalavan + MDMK's Vaiko + CPI's leader I don't recall) would go about everywhere campaigning and taking selfies. Vijayakanth was only taken into alliance as a matter of convenience. This election was too important for all the reasons mentioned above. Everyone knew something surprising is going to happen, and were trying their best to predict it. But the results surprised in ways that nobody was prepared for. - ADMK returns back to power for a 2nd consecutive term, a feat last accomplished by MGR. - DMK wins huge after the disaster in 2011. They just fell short of the 50% mark. But the biggest surprise was still reserved for the last - Vijayakanth loses deposit. Let that sink in. Not just an electoral loss. He ***"looses deposit" - an indication that not enough people voted for him.*** The 3rd Front is dismantled, and everyone go about forming new alliances. #Conclusion Vijayakanth rose to political prominence because people believed in him. Vijayakanth lost because people stopped believing in him. There is no role for DMK or Vadivelu to play in its downfall. In fact, Vadivelu's speech destroyed DMK more than DMDK. If at all one wants to pass the blame, then ADMK should get the blame. When they were aligned, DMDK reached its peak to become the Leader of Opposition. When they fell apart, DMDK lost deposit for it's leader. But, to be fair, the real culprit was the worsening health of Vijayakanth. This unexpected event made everything worse for him. His public presence became increasingly comical before people realized the health issues he was facing. Blaming DMK or ADMK is only intended to misguide gullible youngsters who might be discovering Vijayakanth only recently. Any sane and logical person would go for the historical chronology and then reason from there. Happy to hear counter opinions, as long as it is objective and healthy and does not indulge in Ad Hominem attacks. Any immature and abusive comments will be reported and blocked.
