About Surat
The name probably "Surat" comes from "Suratte". The Suratte name was given by the Dutches. Portuguese, French, British, Persian, Armenian, Dutch and many other groups of people entered India through Surat. Shivaji and Marathas looted Surat twice under Mughal rule. There's also a story about how a sage impressed Surya dev and asked him to live on the holy land upon which the city is built, he refused (because of too much energy), but his family is present in Surat in form of Tapi, Ashwini Kumar, and Rander. Surat has gotten the blessings of the Surya Dev himself.1
