Make me understand stock split

I had bought Mazgaon Dock Ship stocks at the start of the year. The news is that the stock will undergo a split. I don't have much knowledge about how stock split affect the investment or whether it even has any impact. Any explanation to understand stock split, its split ratio and impact (if any) will be helpful to learn more about this.
