How do you guys allocate mutual funds

I just got a job and am deciding to invest in mutual funds first before entering in stock market directly. From what I have read I am inclined to pick a mix of 1. 30 pc index fund 2. 30 pc sectoral ( infra , pharma ) 3. 30 pc Midcap smallcap 4 10 pc large cap. I would appreciate what strategies you guys use and how you guys select funds.
