Correct way of Savings?

I have some 30 odd lakhs of FD (tax free) with interest of 7.99 I'm thinking to pour all that in MFs This FD was my emergency fund Now for accumulating emergency fund, I'm thinking to keep USD in my account at an interest of 5.0 I'm doing this as I'm accumulating interest as well as dollar appreciating Is this the right way to approach?
